Android Store Policy Update – Target API Level 26 – November 1st 2018

If you have a MobileCaddy app and an Android App Container that is listed on the Play Store the coming changes to the Android Store Policy are of note (please see the full update and requirement here)

As of November 1st 2018 all new submissions and updates to existing app listings will require a minimum of API 26.

MobileCaddy has updated and tested our Android App Container Base Build (the Base Build is what all our client App Containers are built from) to target API 26 and meet the upcoming Android Play Store requirements.

All new (ie yet to be listed) MobileCaddy Client App Containers submitted to the Play Store from 01/10/2018 will be targeting API 26 by default. For other scenarios please see below:

Scenarios

  1. You app is already listed on the Play Store and you are not planning on future releases/updates to the Container App

Action: No Action is required. Your app will continue to be listed and available (if in the future you do require an update for other reasons please see Scenario 2 below).
  2. You app is already listed on the Play Store and you are planning on future releases/updates to the Container App

Action: Your app will continue to be listed and available however if your App Container is due to be upgraded after November 1st 2018 please contact MobileCaddy support (support@mobilecaddy.net) to ensure that your latest App Container release has been upgraded to meet the requirements.
  3. You app is not listed on the Play Store (ie you distribute via MDM etc)

Action: No Action is required. You will be able continue to distribute your app yourselves as long as it meets the requirements of your MDM provider.
